A routine shoplifting call quickly escalated into a violent confrontation on Wednesday evening when police responded to a reported larceny in progress at a business on N. Glebe Road. According to Arlington County Police, a male suspect allegedly concealed merchandise and left the store without paying.
Officers responded promptly and located a suspect matching the description provided. Despite being issued commands, the suspect fled, prompting a foot pursuit to the 4100 block of 3rd Road N. When officers attempted to arrest him, he resisted and assaulted multiple officers during the struggle.
One officer sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital. A second officer was evaluated on scene and released. The suspect was also taken to the hospital for evaluation.
Naomi Spruill, 30, of no fixed address, was arrested and charged with Malicious Wounding on Police, Assault on Police, Disarming of a Law Enforcement Officer, Obstruction of Justice, and Shoplifting. Spruill is being held without bond.
