A traffic stop in Arlington turned violent on December 10 when a suspect allegedly assaulted a police officer. Officers stopped a vehicle in the 2800 block of S. Quincy Street and discovered the driver was operating on a suspended license.
When the driver was instructed to exit the vehicle, police say the individual failed to comply with commands and was subsequently detained by a responding officer. While being held, the suspect reportedly struck one of the officers on scene. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
The suspect, Veyonce Smith, 22, of Alexandria, VA, was arrested and charged with Assault and Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer.
