A routine hit-and-run investigation escalated when a suspect became combative with police on the evening of January 11.
The victim reported being rear-ended while stopped at a red light. The suspect vehicle fled the scene, prompting officers to issue a lookout. They later located the suspect in the 1900 block of N. George Mason Drive and conducted a traffic stop.
Police say the suspect, identified as 34-year-old Shawnita Campbell of Washington, D.C., refused to comply with commands and struck an officer during the arrest. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
Campbell was arrested and charged with Assault and Battery on Law Enforcement, Driving Under the Influence, and Refusal of Breath/Blood Test.
