Assault and Robbery Leads to Officer Injury on Columbia Pike

A domestic dispute on Columbia Pike escalated into a violent confrontation with police, resulting in an officer being injured and a suspect facing multiple charges.

Police responded to a reported dispute between a male suspect and a female victim, who are known to each other. During the altercation, the suspect allegedly assaulted the victim, stole her phone, and destroyed it before fleeing on foot.

Later that evening, the suspect returned to the scene. When a responding officer attempted to take him into custody, the suspect became combative and assaulted the officer. With assistance from additional officers, the suspect was ultimately subdued and arrested.

A search during the arrest revealed the suspect was in possession of brass knuckles. The officer sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was treated at a local hospital.

The suspect, 24-year-old Jalani Gatlin of Alexandria, VA, was arrested and charged with Assault and Battery on Law Enforcement, Assault and Battery, Robbery, Trespassing, Destruction of Property, Possession of Blackjacks, and Obstruction of Justice. He is being held without bond.
