A chaotic scene unfolded on Columbia Pike when police responded to a suspicious person call and encountered a man who had forced his way into a secured residential building. Investigators say the suspect shoved a victim out of an elevator before breaking into an unoccupied apartment, causing damage.
When officers arrived, the situation escalated quickly. The suspect resisted arrest and allegedly assaulted six officers and a police K9. Authorities deployed a Taser and the K9 unit to bring him under control.
One officer was taken to the hospital as a precaution, while another sought treatment for minor injuries. The suspect, identified as Oleh Mashkin, 34, was hospitalized for non-life-threatening injuries before being charged with multiple felonies, including assault on police and burglary. He is being held without bond.
