Officer Injured After Rock Thrown at Patrol Vehicle on Columbia Pike

An Arlington County police officer was injured while attempting to take a suspect into custody after a patrol vehicle was struck by a rock in the early morning hours of July 7.

According to police, an officer was driving in the 4900 block of Columbia Pike when a man allegedly threw a rock at the patrol vehicle, damaging the windshield. After the officer exited the vehicle and issued commands, the suspect refused to comply. A second responding officer also attempted to gain compliance before the suspect allegedly struck that officer.

Police deployed a Taser, and with the assistance of additional officers, the suspect was taken into custody. One officer sustained minor injuries during the encounter.

Teklezghi Habate Marian, 46, of no fixed address, was arrested and charged with Assault on Police, Obstruction of Justice, Missile Into Occupied Vehicle, and Destruction of Property. He was held without bond.
