Armed Carjacking Reported on 18th Street North in Arlington

A woman was the victim of an armed carjacking Monday afternoon in the 4100 block of 18th Street N., according to Arlington County Police.

Investigators say the victim was sitting inside her parked vehicle when a man arrived in a pickup truck, exited the vehicle, and approached the driver’s side window. The suspect allegedly displayed a firearm and demanded the victim’s vehicle.

The victim complied and exited the vehicle. The suspect then drove away in the stolen vehicle. No injuries were reported during the incident.

Police immediately broadcast a lookout and searched the surrounding area but were unable to locate the suspect.

Later that day, the stolen vehicle was spotted traveling in Prince George’s County, Maryland. With assistance from the United States Park Police, authorities recovered the vehicle following a pursuit that ended in a crash in Washington, D.C. The driver was taken into custody, and the investigation remains ongoing.
