In a recent update from the Arlington County Police Department, a 40-year-old man from Arlington, named Vernon Koning, has been apprehended and faces serious charges of Rape and Strangulation following a distressing incident in Crystal City. Currently, Koning is being held without bond at the Arlington County Detention Facility.
The arrest came swiftly after a report of a rape was made in the early hours of February 8, around 2:15 a.m. According to initial investigations, the female victim was walking in the vicinity when she entered into a conversation with Koning. The encounter took a violent turn when Koning allegedly led her to a secluded outdoor spot on the 200 block of 12th Street S., where he is accused of both sexually and physically assaulting her. The victim managed to escape the scene and seek help on the 900 block of Long Bridge Drive.
Arlington County Police promptly launched an in-depth investigation, piecing together evidence and conducting interviews with witnesses. This meticulous work led to Koning’s identification and subsequent arrest during a traffic stop on the evening of February 8.
