Police and fire personnel were dispatched to a residence in the 3800 block of 7th Street N for a report of an intoxicated individual. Upon arrival, first responders made contact with a male suspect inside the home.
Authorities say the suspect became agitated and uncooperative with medics, blocking public safety personnel from exiting the apartment. The situation escalated when the suspect allegedly became aggressive toward medics. An officer attempted to detain him, but the suspect was noncompliant, striking the officer and attempting to disarm the officer of his firearm.
Additional officers responded to the scene and assisted in taking the suspect into custody. No injuries were reported.
Christopher Rowland, 50, of Arlington, Va., was arrested and charged with Assault on Police, two counts of Assault and Battery, Attempted Disarming of a Law Enforcement Officer, Abduction, and Obstruction of Justice. He was held without bond.
