An officer-involved shooting is under investigation after a knife-wielding suspect was fatally shot at the entrance of the Rosslyn Metro Station on December 10. The regional Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT) is leading the probe.
Police were dispatched around 3:45 p.m. following reports of a suspicious individual inside a business on the 1500 block of Wilson Boulevard. According to initial findings, the suspect reportedly showed a knife to employees during a conversation before leaving the scene.
Responding officers later found a man matching the suspect’s description on the top floor of the Rosslyn Metro Station. When officers attempted to detain him, the suspect reportedly pulled out a knife, leading to a physical altercation. One officer discharged their firearm, striking the suspect.
Officers administered lifesaving measures before medics arrived and transported the suspect to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The suspect’s identity is being withheld pending family notification.
A knife was recovered at the scene.
The two involved officers were also hospitalized—one for non-life-threatening injuries and the other for evaluation. Both have since been released. Per department policy, the officers are on administrative leave while the investigation continues.
Once CIRT concludes its investigation, the findings will be reviewed by the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office.
