Arlington Police Arrest Suspect in Critical Hit-and-Run Incident

ARLINGTON, Va. – The Arlington County Police Department has announced the arrest of Ronnell Blakeney, 33, of Baltimore, MD, in connection with a critical hit-and-run crash. Blakeney faces charges of Aggravated Malicious Wounding and Felony Hit and Run and is currently held without bond at the Arlington County Detention Facility.

The incident occurred around 7:12 p.m. on May 23, when police were called to the 3300 block of 22nd Street N. The preliminary investigation indicates that Blakeney, who was making food deliveries, was driving at a high speed when a verbal dispute with the victim, an adult male, erupted over his driving. During the confrontation, Blakeney allegedly struck the victim with his vehicle, causing serious injuries, before fleeing the scene.

The victim was transported to a local hospital, where he remains hospitalized and is continuing his recovery.

Detectives launched a critical crash investigation immediately following the incident. After reviewing crime scene evidence and witness interviews, they identified Blakeney as the suspect. He was apprehended on the evening of June 5, 2024.
