In the early hours of Sunday morning, a man was left fighting for his life on Arlington Boulevard. By late morning, police say the driver involved had turned herself in.
The Arlington County Police Department announced the arrest of 25-year-old Valeria Galdo Camacho of Arlington in connection with a hit-and-run crash that happened just after midnight on March 1.
Officers and fire crews were called to North Irving Street at Arlington Boulevard around 12:39 a.m. for a report of a pedestrian struck. When they arrived, they found an adult man lying in the roadway with critical injuries. Medics treated him at the scene before taking him to a nearby hospital. As of Sunday, he remains in critical but stable condition.
Police say the preliminary investigation shows the driver was heading eastbound on Arlington Boulevard when she hit the pedestrian. After the crash, investigators say she left the scene.
Around 11 a.m., Galdo Camacho turned herself in at the Magistrate’s Office. She is now charged with felony hit and run.
The crash happened along a busy stretch of Arlington Boulevard that connects neighborhoods to Route 50 and carries steady traffic even late at night. It’s a corridor where residents have long raised concerns about speeding and pedestrian safety, especially near intersections like North Irving Street.
The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Young at 703-228-4342.
