An Alexandria man is facing multiple charges after Arlington police say he attacked two officers without warning early Friday morning in Clarendon.

According to Arlington County police, 26-year-old Quinton Berry was arrested after what officers described as an unprovoked attack near Wilson Boulevard and North Irving Street around 3:07 a.m. Friday, March 20.

Police said two officers were sitting in a marked patrol vehicle at a red light when Berry, described as bloody and agitated, walked up to the driver’s side, opened the door and started assaulting the officer inside. He then ran from the scene.

The officer in the passenger seat got out and chased him on foot, police said. A short distance away, near North Irving Street and 12th Street North, Berry allegedly turned back toward the officer, knocked him to the ground and struggled with him. During that fight, police say Berry tried to take control of the officer’s Taser.

Additional officers arrived and took Berry into custody.

Both officers suffered minor injuries and were treated by medics at the scene.

Berry has been charged with two counts of assault on police, two counts of obstruction of justice, attempted disarming of an officer and vehicle tampering. He is being held without bond at the Arlington County Detention Facility.

The case is still under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Arlington County Police Department tip line at 703-228-4180.
