Fatal Crash in Arlington: Driver Dies After Car Hits House and Catches Fire

A tragic overnight crash in Arlington has left one person dead after their vehicle slammed into a residential building and caught fire.

According to the Arlington County Police Department, the single-vehicle crash happened just after midnight—at around 12:02 a.m. on December 15—in the 2400 block of 24th Road South, not far from S. Glebe Road. Police and fire crews were dispatched to the scene following reports of a crash with injuries.

Investigators say the vehicle was heading south on Glebe Road when it veered off course, jumped the curb, and crashed into the exterior of a home. The impact caused the car to catch fire, which was quickly put out by firefighters.

The driver, who was the only person in the car, died at the scene. Police are still working to identify the individual and notify their family, so the name has not yet been released.

While the investigation is still ongoing, police say speed may have played a role in the crash.
