MALICIOUS WOUNDING ON POLICE:  NB I-395 at Boundary Channel Drive Arlington VA

At approximately 5:19 p.m. on March 13, police received an alert for a stolen vehicle traveling in the area of Shirlington Road and 24th Road S. A lookout was broadcast and responding officers canvassed the area for the suspect. A short time later, an officer observed the vehicle traveling northbound on I-395 in Richmond Highway. Officers activated their emergency equipment and attempted to conduct a vehicle stop at Boundary Channel Drive, during which the vehicle’s driver evaded officers, struck an occupied police cruiser and continued to drive. The officer did not sustain any injuries. The suspect then struck two additional vehicles traveling in the area, exited the suspect vehicle and attempted to flee the scene on foot. The cars sustained property damage; however, the occupants reported no injuries. The suspect ran across the southbound lanes of I-395 and was taken into custody following a foot pursuit. During the investigation, the suspect, who was determined to be a juvenile in his teens, provided false personal identification information to officers, and it was determined that he did not possess a valid operator’s license. Burglarious tools were recovered, and the vehicle was confirmed to have been stolen. Petitions for the juvenile suspect were obtained for Malicious Wounding on Police, Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle, Eluding, Hit and Run (x2), Identity Theft, Possession of Burglarious Tools and No Operator’s License.
