An Arlington police officer working a nightlife detail was allegedly struck by a man during an early-morning confrontation at Wilson Boulevard and N. Fillmore Street.
Police said the officer saw individuals yelling at each other in the roadway and ordered the group to leave the street. When a male suspect approached another man, the officer intervened and instructed the suspect to step away.
The suspect allegedly ignored the commands, struck the officer and ran. Responding officers later located him near Clarendon Boulevard and N. Garfield Street and took him into custody.
No injuries were reported.
Fernando Vasquez, 35, of Arlington, VA, was arrested and charged with assault on police and obstruction of justice.
