ARLINGTON, Va. — Arlington County police have arrested a 26-year-old Washington, D.C., woman in connection with an Aug. 31 carjacking in the Colonial Village neighborhood.
Leah Elaine Johnson has been charged with carjacking by the Arlington County Police Department. She also faces charges of unauthorized use of a vehicle and driving without a license filed by the Washington Metropolitan Airports Authority Police Department.
Johnson is being held without bond at the Arlington County Detention Facility, according to police.
The incident began around 4:56 p.m. Aug. 31, when officers were called to the 2100 block of 19th Street N. for a reported larceny.
Police said the victim was walking in the area when Johnson allegedly approached her from behind and tried to start a conversation. The victim continued toward her vehicle, and the suspect followed her, according to investigators.
Police allege the suspect then made a threatening statement and demanded the victim’s keys. She took the keys, got into the victim’s vehicle and drove away, police said.
The vehicle surfaced the following afternoon.
On Sept. 1, officers with the Washington Metropolitan Airports Authority Police Department spotted the stolen vehicle and pulled it over. The driver was detained.
Arlington detectives investigating the Colonial Village carjacking subsequently linked Johnson to the Aug. 31 incident and obtained a warrant for her arrest, according to police.
