ROBBERY:  4900 block of Columbia Pike Arlington VA

At approximately 6:26 a.m. on August 23, police were dispatched to the report of a larceny just occurred. Upon arrival, it was determined the male suspect allegedly entered the business, collected merchandise and requested to purchase cigarettes at the counter. When the employee refused to set the cigarettes on the counter prior to the purchase being made, the suspect went behind the counter and attempted to steal them. A struggle ensued between two employees and the suspect during which he struck them and fled the scene on foot with the unpaid merchandise. The employees sustained minor injuries and were evaluated and released by medics on scene. Responding officers canvassed the area for the suspect yielding negative results. On August 24, an officer on patrol observed an individual matching the description of the suspect in the area of Columbia Pike and S. Randolph Street and took him into custody. Ricky Garner, 56, of Arlington, Va. was arrested and charged with Robbery (x2). He was held without bond.
