Arlington County Police responded to a reported larceny at a business in the 4200 block of Fairfax Drive during the afternoon of May 26. According to authorities, a male suspect allegedly entered the store, gathered merchandise, and exited without paying.
When confronted by an employee outside the business, the suspect allegedly made threatening statements before fleeing the area on foot. Officers responding to the scene received a description of the suspect and began searching nearby.
A responding officer located a man matching the suspect’s description near Fairfax Drive and N. Stuart Street and attempted to take him into custody. Police say the suspect ignored commands, struck an officer, and resisted arrest before additional officers assisted in taking him into custody.
No injuries were reported during the incident.
The suspect was initially uncooperative with officers regarding his identity. Following further investigation, police identified the suspect as 35-year-old Walter Viera of Arlington. He was arrested and charged with Assault on Police, Obstruction of Justice, and Robbery.
