A retail theft escalated to a robbery on Friday evening after a suspect used force to escape apprehension. The incident occurred at a business on the 1200 block of S. Hayes Street, where a male suspect attempted to leave the store without paying for concealed merchandise.
When an employee confronted him, the suspect reportedly pushed the employee and fled the scene on foot. No injuries were reported.
Police describe the suspect as a tall Black male with glasses, wearing a gray jacket, green hoodie, camouflage jeans, white and black shoes, and carrying a black backpack. The suspect remains at large as the investigation continues.
