An alert Arlington police officer conducting routine patrols made a significant arrest Tuesday afternoon that led to the recovery of a stolen firearm. The incident occurred in a parking garage near 15th Street S. and S. Grant Street.
The officer spotted a parked, unoccupied vehicle linked to a wanted individual. Shortly after, the suspect returned to the vehicle, prompting a traffic stop. When the officer attempted to make the arrest, the suspect resisted. Additional units responded quickly and assisted in detaining the man.
During the investigation, officers located a firearm in the vehicle. The weapon was confirmed to be stolen and had an altered serial number.
The suspect, identified as 35-year-old Jamal Waldon of Suitland, Maryland, was taken into custody. He is facing multiple charges including Carrying a Concealed Weapon, Altering the Serial Number of a Firearm, Possession of a Stolen Firearm, and Obstruction of Justice. Waldon is being held without bond.
Police are continuing to investigate the origin of the firearm and the circumstances surrounding its possession.
