Two Nights of Gunfire in Arlington’s Green Valley Neighborhood Leave One Injured, Cars and Homes Damaged

Arlington police are investigating whether two shootings on South Lowell Street are connected and are asking residents to check their home surveillance cameras for evidence.

ARLINGTON, Va. — Arlington County police are investigating two consecutive nights of gunfire in the Green Valley neighborhood that left one man injured, damaged several vehicles and homes, and prompted searches for suspects who remain at large.

The incidents occurred October 21 and 22 in the 2400 block of South Lowell Street, near South Lincoln Street. Detectives are now working to determine whether the two shootings are connected.

The first shooting was reported at approximately 11:48 p.m. Wednesday, October 21, when officers responded to reports of gunfire.

Police found an adult man inside a nearby residence suffering from a gunshot wound. Investigators believe he had been outside near the intersection of South Lowell and South Lincoln streets when he was struck. He then ran to a nearby home seeking help.

Officers provided aid until medics arrived and transported the man to a hospital. Police said his injuries were not life-threatening and that he was in stable condition.

Investigators recovered evidence of gunfire and found that several parked, unoccupied vehicles had been damaged by bullets.

The person or people responsible had fled before officers arrived. A search of the surrounding area did not locate any suspects.

More Gunfire Reported the Following Night

Less than 24 hours later, police returned to the same block after another report of shots fired.

At approximately 9:27 p.m. Thursday, October 22, officers responded to the 2400 block of South Lowell Street after residents reported hearing gunshots.

This time, police discovered damage to seven parked vehicles and two homes. No injuries were reported.

Officers searched the neighborhood, using a police drone and a K9 unit to look for possible suspects. The search was unsuccessful.

The second incident raised questions about whether the same individuals were involved in both shootings. As of the department’s October 23 update, detectives had not established a connection between the incidents.

Police have not released descriptions of any suspects or identified a motive for either shooting.

Police Ask Green Valley Residents to Check Cameras

Investigators are asking people living along South Lowell Street and in the surrounding Green Valley neighborhood to review footage from doorbell cameras, home security systems and other surveillance equipment.

Even footage that does not show the shootings themselves could help investigators establish what happened before or after the gunfire.

Residents who have relevant video or images from the October 22 incident can submit them directly through the department’s online evidence submission portal.

Anyone with information about either incident can contact the Arlington County Police Department’s Homicide/Robbery Unit at 703-228-4180 or email ACPDTipline@arlingtonva.us.

Arlington County Crime Solvers also accepts anonymous tips at 1-866-411-TIPS (8477).

Both investigations remain open. Police have not announced any arrests.

For Green Valley residents, the immediate concern is that gunfire was reported on the same residential block on consecutive nights, with bullets damaging parked cars and homes and one person wounded. Whether the incidents are related remains a central question for investigators.
